25 Years & Counting

Tidal Bore Rafting Park & Cottages has been in business for 25 years. The park and cottages are open all year around. Tidal bore rafting tours are offered from May 1st through October 31st from the company hilltop location overlooking the Shubenacadie River at Urbania, Nova Scotia. There are 13, one and two bedroom cottages on the property, all self-sufficient units, all insulted for year around comfort, all very private and all within listening distance of the famous Shubenacadie Tidal Bore .

There is an in-ground swimming pool and a meeting lodge at the park and visitors can explore 180 acres of land, including 2 miles of groomed hiking trails, many of which wind their way through mature hardwood forest along the river bank.

In 2007 -2008, Jack Robinson and Heather Smith, owners of Tidal Bore Rafting Park, completed the largest expansion to the business in its history. A new restaurant and catering facility was built a to highlight the company’s desire to attract business and group functions to the park. The restaurant has its own chef, catering staff and a huge deck with an unparalleled view of the Shubenacadie River.

Other facilities were added, including two, two bedroom luxury chalets and a new five bedroom unit, perfect for business meetings and family events. The five bedroom chalet is unique in the province and has become a real asset to event planners in Nova Scotia, who are interested holding a special event in a quiet rural setting away from more urban distractions. The chalets are constructed of specially prepared Russian Pine and were assembled at the park by a team of Russian builders. The construction of a Russian Sauna in the fall of 2008 completed the company’s most recent expansion efforts.

Tidal Bore Rafting Park employs 4 to 5 people on a full time basis, which increases to about 35 peoeple (including many students) on a seasonal basis, when the rafting tours begin in May. Among Zodiac drivers this year are students from Argentina, Austrailia and the Ukranine.
